Peanut Proud and the Georgia Peanut Commission are partnering during the Sunbelt Ag Expo, Oct. 18-20 in Moultrie, Georgia, to collect $1 donations to be used for the purchase of peanut butter for humanitarian efforts. Any and all money collected at the event will be used to purchase Peanut Proud peanut butter for delivery to local food banks.
Gregg Grimsley, president of Peanut Proud, is excited about the opportunity to partner with GPC in an effort to help those who are in need.
"Peanut Proud is grateful for the opportunity to co-sponsor with the Georgia Peanut Commission and with the help of the Sunbelt Expo, a fundraising drive that has the potential to positively impact so many people's lives," Grimsley said.
Since the organization's formation in 2009, Peanut Proud has donated peanut products to community food banks across the United States, as well as areas affected by natural disasters, after-school programs and international aid efforts. Recently, Peanut Proud donated more than 60,000 jars of peanut butter to help feed those in need after historic flooding in Louisiana. Peanut butter was delivered to Second Harvest Food Bank in New Orleans, Walker and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Each dollar donated will cover the cost of one jar of peanut butter, which can make up to 15 sandwiches for a family in need. According to the National Peanut Board, peanut butter is an ideal food product to feed hungry communities across the United States because of its long shelf life, and the fact peanuts have seven grams of protein and more than 30 essential vitamins and nutrients.
Those attending the Sunbelt Ag Expo can donate at the Peanut Proud exhibit inside the Georgia Peanut Commission building located at WC-9-34. Inside, visitors can learn more about Peanut Proud, as well as learn more about the Georgia peanut industry and sample peanut products.
